Peace, Hope, & Love Fest: Restoring Faith in the City
“And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.” 1 Corinthians 13:13 NIV
The goal of this project was to host a family friendly event to the surrounding community but there is a back story that put this idea on our hearts. There is a lot of violence in New Orleans, particularly amongst our youth. Last month, not far from Annunciation Park, a little boy’s foot caught a stray bullet. At the scene a police officer was asked by an outsider “How do you feel about this?” His response “How do YOU feel?” That conversation set things in motion. What are we doing? What can we do? How can we individually take responsibility to make a difference? So, we wanted to come together to offer a fun, safe, family friendly event to be a light in this world by showing love to our neighbors, to each other. We were just three people backed by a lot of others who have stepped up and given their time, talents, and resources to make this happen.
Mystic Krewe of Femme Fatal brought a large group of helping hands and hearts. The crafts table was a huge hit thanks to those amazing ladies!
Kappa Sigma at Tulane came prepared to play and it warmed my heart to look across the field and see kids playing corn hole, kicking a soccer ball around, and being able to just be kids.
Vintage Church members were also key in prepping for the event, praying for us, providing resources, and lots of helping hands! Face Painting volunteers rocked it! The Bouncy Houses were wild, but those volunteers kept it fun and safe! We are incredibly thankful for everyone who helped set up, get the word out, bring supplies, keep things going, and clean up at the end!
Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, 21 to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen. Ephesians 3:20-21
What’s next? Well, my husband and I left for Greece and we are on a little island in the Med for 2 months.
